FUE is a minimally invasive hair transplant surgery that involves removing the hair follicles from a donor area and inserting them into the thinning or balding area of the scalp.
For people with areas of their scalp that has lost hair or has stagnant growth, microscopic donor grafts are garnered in clusters of 1-4 hairs from other parts of the body that grow hair. These hairs are then implanted one by one with microscopic punch wounds. The grafts are incredibly small, just 1mm in size.
Because the follicular units are so tiny, thousands of grafts are able to be transplanted during one procedure. This enhances the aesthetic outcome of the surgery. When performed by our skilled surgeon, the hair will grow as naturally as the rest of the hair without any detection that the patient has had a hair transplant.
FUE removes donor grafts that are transplanted to a recipient area and FUSS removes a larger portion of the scalp to be divided and cut into small donor grafts.
FUE leaves the scalp with a more natural looking hairline, without a post-surgical scar. FUSS gives the hairline the resemblance of a traditional hair transplant and also leaves a noticeable scar.
A follicular Unit is a group of naturally growing hairs that extend from the hair follicle in the scalp.
The production of these follicular units occurs in the skin organ, also known as the hair follicle. The shape of the hair follicle will determine the shape and consistency of the hair.
The FUE surgery normally takes 5-8 hours.
The average FUE procedure will last about 8 hours. The actual amount of time that it will take for the procedure will depend on the size and number of grafts. The length of time will be determined by the donor area and donor density.
No. The FUE procedure is not painful, but there may be slight discomfort.
The treatment is basically pain-free, since it is performed by using a local anesthetic. Patients will feel a little pinch when the anesthetic is injected into the scalp. After the anesthetic has been administered, patients should not feel any pain. Once the surgery has been completed, patients will normally feel some minimal discomfort, which is comparable to the mild heat of a sunburn. The FUSS treatment projects more discomfort, but it will depend on each patient and how much pain they can tolerate. Medication can be prescribed to alleviate the discomfort.
Yes. The hair can be kept short after the surgery since the FUE surgery does not leave a prominent scar.
Although the surgery does not leave a prominent scar, it leaves multiple small holes that will eventually heal and become undetectable over time.
Yes. The procedure can be performed again within a short amount of time.
Because there are no scars, wounds that need to mend or staples during the recuperation period, the recovery time is quick and involves minimal pain. With little healing required, FUE surgery can be performed again after a month.
Yes. The patient is required to shave off the donor zone before the FUE surgery.
Though it’s necessary to shave off the donor zone, the patient does not have to completely shave the head. They can especially avoid the hairline.
