ABOUT PDO Thread lifts

PDO (polydioxanone) thread is a type of suture that is soft and malleable and is absorbed by the body over time. A PDO Thread Lift uses these threads in the skin in a non-surgical method to reduce laxity in the skin. The results of this procedure are more subtle than that of a surgical facelift and may look more natural without the significant expense and recovery time involved with surgery.

After placement of the threads, the body responds by generating collagen at the site, providing further support, structure, and elasticity to the face. The result is a lifted, fresh, and more youthful appearance.

Thread lift Non-Surgical Facelifts and skin tighting

Advanced Skin Fitness offers PDO Thread Lift to those interested in a non-surgical, less-invasive, yet highly effective alternative to a traditional surgical facelift. Thread Lifts can also be performed elsewhere on the body.

Thread Lift uses PDO threads to reduce skin sag as well as promote the body to produce a lattice of collagen.

As the skin ages, loss of collagen results in drooping or sagging skin. Other non-surgical medical procedures like toxin injections and facial fillers can do wonders for softening lines and restoring lost volume. Still, until Thread Lift technology came along, there was no non-surgical option for physically lifting the face or other areas of sagging skin. We are proud to offer this safe, effective, and comfortable treatment and are committed to delivering enviable results.

Thread Lifts with PDO Max FDA Cleared Threads

The idea of using dissoluble surgical suture threads for cosmetic enhancement happened about 20 years ago. Surgeons, both general and plastic, were seeing larger amounts of collagen formation around the temporary dissolvable sutures that were used to repair the body and close the skin during surgeries. Experiments were performed using the regular suture without much success. There were problems with the threads attaching to the skin and actually performing a lift and they were very thin and didn’t give must support before they could break.

At Advanced Skin Fitness, we have been interested in this technology for years, but we were hesitant because there were no PDO threads available that were actually FDA cleared to be used to lift the skin. PDO stands for Polydioxanone threads. They are thin, medical-grade, absorbable threads with tiny barbs that lift and tighten skin that has lost its elasticity due to the normal aging process. The PDO threads are inserted under the skin using local anesthetic during an extremely comfortable procedure performed usually in under an hour. The threads are inserted below the skin where they attach to your underlying connective tissue, and with a slight pull, the skin is lifted and rejuvenated.

PDO Thread Lift can be used anywhere on the body that may need lifting because of sagging skin. We perform many treatments on the face in multiple areas, but we also perform these lifts on other areas of the body such as arms, knees, buttocks, and more.

These PDO threads dissolve over the course of about 6 – 9 months. However, during the process, the body builds collagen around the dissolvable thread leaving behind a “scaffolding” network of new collagen to support your skin. We like to do a second insertion of threads around this time mark to build long-lasting collagen in your skin to see even longer-lasting rejuvenation effects. The procedure will leave the skin looking and feeling much tighter and have a remarkably similar result as a minimal facelift without the recovery or concern over sedation or scarring.

What makes PDO Max Threads different than other threads?

There are competitors that offer dissolvable threads that are promoted for use as a ThreadLift. But there are many factors that set PDO Max threads in an entirely different class of device from our competitors. Unlike other PDO threads, PDO Max threads are actually FDA cleared as a thread that comes from the distributor with the thread inside the insertion cannula device. PDO Max is currently one of only two companies that have received this FDA clearance in the U.S. PDO Max has a unique designed thread that is “barbed” in a way that gives maximum attachment to the underlying connective tissue and skin with a very low failure rate.

How long does the PDO Max Thread Lift Treatment Take?

The treatment will normally take about 30 minutes to an hour per area.

How Many Treatments of the PDO Max Thread Lift are needed?

Although the number of treatments scheduled will highly depend on the condition of the patient’s collagen, connective tissue, laxity, and the overall age of the skin, the average person needs about 2 treatments to see the most effective results. Treatments are spaced 6 – 9 months apart and re-treatment may be required every couple of years.

How Soon Should a Patient See Results After PDO Max Thread Lift Treatments?

Visible results are seen immediately following the Thread Lift. Often, we lift one side to show the change for the patient before we lift the patients’ opposite side. This is always astonishing for the patient and it’s one of our favorite attributes of the Thread Lift treatment. The results can actually look better for the first 2 – 4 days if there is some swelling. If the patient likes the look they received after the swelling, we can accomplish adding this volume with Sculptra or Hyaluronic Acid dermal filler.

Is the PDO Max ThreadLift Treatment Painful?

There is not really any pain involved with the Thread Lift treatment. A local injection of lidocaine is used to numb the insertion site and lidocaine is infused into the tissue through this one insertion site. Therefore the patient typically does not experience any pain during the procedure. It’s really much easier to tolerate than most might think. The face will feel numb as if you have had dental work performed for a few hours after the treatment.

Is There Any Downtime After the PDO Max ThreadLift Treatment?

There is no recovery time required, so patients can return to their usual schedule after receiving a Thread Lift treatment. Patients may experience some bruising, tenderness, and mild swelling but they should not be prevented from performing their daily errands and activities or work. It is not very noticeable in most cases.

What Are the Side Effects of the PDO Max Thread Lift Treatment?

PDO Thread Lifts have two possible side effects if not performed properly. Improper placement of threads may result in thread protrusion and puckering of the skin if not performed by a well-trained, experienced professional. At Advanced Skin Fitness, our professional performing the lift has actually been teaching Thread Lifts to doctors and nurses for almost 6 years and is a paid trainer by PDO Max to teach these specific threads. Trust you are in the best hands at Advanced Skin Fitness.

What body parts are commonly treated with PDO ThreadMax Treatment?

The most common body parts that are treated are all areas of the face and neck, arms, thighs, buttocks, and knees.

How does PDO Max Thread Lift compare to other skin tightening therapies such as Ultherapy or BTL Exilis Ultra?
ThreadLifts are an excellent weapon to add to our arsenal of anti-aging treatments. We often combine PDO threads with dermal fillers, neurotoxins such as D*Sport, Ultherapy Skin Tightening, and Exilis Ultra Skin Tightening. All of these modalities will build additional collagen in different ways. The patient can be safe knowing that they can continue treatments such as micro-needling with RF, Clear + Brilliant laser, HydroFacial, PhotoFacial, or any other procedures you may be currently having with Advanced Skin Fitness.

How Do I Prepare For Treatment and What Happens?

Prior to your appointment, your technician may ask you to spend a few days abstaining from the following:

  • Advil and Ibuprofen
  • Aspirin
  • Green tea and green tea extracts
  • Vitamin E
  • Omega 3 Supplements
  • High-intensity workouts
  • Steam rooms or saunas
  • Alcohol

When you arrive for your appointment, you’ll be led to the treatment area, where you’ll lie down in a reclined chair. Next, your skin will be disinfected and then numbed with a topical numbing cream. Local anesthesia will be injected at the treatment sites. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, PDO threads will be inserted into various layers of the skin using a needle. The threads anchor the skin, which can then be gently pulled upward. Excess thread is then snipped off. The entire procedure can be completed in under 45 minutes.

How soon will I see results, and how long will they last?

Patients will see some of the results of this treatment immediately. The lifting effect of the threads, for example, will be noticeable and visible right away. The full results, including plumping and increased elasticity, are typically achieved within one or two months following treatment. This can vary greatly depending on your age and on how quickly your body produces collagen. Younger people typically produce new, healthy collagen more quickly and will see results sooner. How long results will last also depends on various factors, including how quickly your body metabolizes the threads. Generally, the threads last for six months to a year, and younger people tend to see the results last for three to four years.

What About Downtime and Aftercare?

Recovery and downtime following a PDO Thread Lift are minimal. You may see some minor bruising and swelling that will abate within 24 to 48 hours. It’s best to sleep on your back for the first week or so following treatment. This ensures that you don’t put too much pressure on the sides of your face. Your technician may also advise you to avoid pursing your lips, rubbing your face, using a straw, or opening your mouth widely for a week or so following treatment. High-intensity workouts, saunas, and steam rooms may also be contraindicated for a short time following treatment. Other than this, patients can resume most activities right away.
